Chromia Composites

Chromium oxide composite coatings applied by the Plasma Flame Spray process are recommended for resistance to wear by abrasive grains or hard surfaces. These composites incorporate an inert wetting agent to improved toughness. These additions may include titania, silica, or similar materials in judicious amounts to promote specific coating properties.

Deposited utilizing High Energy Plasma Flame Spray technology these materials produce very hard wear resistant coatings. These coatings are typically 1.5 times better at resisting wear by abrasive grains, hard surfaces. cavitation, and particle erosion than a pure chromium oxide coatings having a similar hardness.

Powder size may be varied to alter and improve coating characteristics such as resistance to spalling during tiexure and thickness limit.

These coatings are used to resist wear by fibers and threads. packing or lip seals, as well as, slurry wear and wear by hard surfaces. Typical applications include pump impellers, reciprocating pump plungers, compressor rods, capstans and similar components.
